Course syllabi

Syllabus is the property of courses and contains the material that the teacher plans to teach the students during the course. The syllabus can be entered for the courses individually in the Syllabus window on the Courses tab. But it is also possible to define standard syllabi and assign these to the courses and in this case the teacher does not have to prepare it. In the Course syllabi window the standard syllabi can be defined.

The left side of the window contains the syllabi and their units grouped by course type and by course subject. The right side contains the contents of the syllabi. The contents can have two formats: a) table format or b) checklist format. The contents can be multilingual. Use the Show Translation list in the header of the Syllabi window to select the language in which you want to see the syllabus contents while editing.

Syllabi list

The Syllabi list contains the syllabi and their units grouped by course type and by course subject.

The Syllabi list has the following fields:

FieldDescription
Name Name of the course type, course subject, syllabus or unit. Often a course book's title is used here or a custom syllabus name created by the school.
Lesson count Number of unit lessons. This field is only relevant for units.
Start level Start level of the unit. In order to have a complete syllabus, the start level of a unit should be the same as the target level of the previous unit.
Target level Target level of the unit.

Use the buttons to edit the syllabus name and the unit data in the list.

Use the New syllabus button to add a new syllabus to the list. The New syllabus window open where the Name and the Course type of the syllabus can be set. If the course type has also course subjects then the subject can be set as well. If course programs are available for the selected course type and subject then the program's module structure can be used to generate the units of the syllabus. For syllabi with Table format the number of lessons per syllabus row can be set and the rows will be automatically generated.

Use the New unit button to add a new unit to the selected syllabus.

Unit contents in table format

The table contains the material the teacher will teach and the number of lessons planned for the material. The material is displayed for the unit that is selected in the Syllabi list.

The table has the following fields:

Field Description
LessonsNumber of lessons allocated for the teacher to teach the material in the row.
TopicTopic of the lessons
GrammarGrammar covered in course of the lessons
Vocabularyvocabulary material Vocabulary to learn in course of the lessons
SkillsSkills the students will acquire in course of the lessons.
FunctionsDeveloped language functions (like following instructions, counting)
CommentsAny comments (like book sections covered)

All fields in the list except for the Number of lessons are multilingual.

Use the buttons to edit the data in the list.

Unit contents as checklist

The checklist type syllabus contains a categorized list of all the material that needs to be covered by the teacher while teaching the unit. The order of the topics in the checklist is not fixed. A lesson can also cover several topics. What is important is that by the end of the module all topics were covered.

If a checklist type syllabus is assigned to the course then an extra Topics field is shown on the Progress tab of the Course session window where the teacher can select the topics that were covered during the session.

Select the Checklist tab on the right to define the syllabus as a checklist. First add categories using the New category button and then insert topics using the New topics button. Topics do not have to be necessarily in categories.

Use the buttons on top of the checklist listto edit the data in the checklist list. The categories and topics can also be reordered using drag-drop.

The category and topic names are multilingual. They can be translated in the Translations list below the checklist, which has its own toolbar with the under the list to manipulate its contents.
