Template editing

Use the to edit the selected template, to upload its contents from a saved file and to save its contents to an external file in the Templates list.

The template editor opens when the editing is started. Documents are generated and saved in HTML format. There are 2 type of editors depending on the template contents: a) a simple text editor is used when the template contains scripts that you have inserted b) a WYSIWYG is started for HTML contents without scripts and for blank templates.

Use the Preview button to see your template with data filled in. You can define the parameters of the template in the window that opens. These parameters can be different for the different template types.

Use the button to save the changes you have made.

Use the button to add fields to the template. The content of the fields will be filled in when the document is previewed or printed. The available set of fields is different for each template type. Fields are represented by [[field_name]] in the text can be edited as if they where a character: they can be copied or deleted the same way.<color black/yellow>. yellow .</color>

Tips for editing in the WYSIWYG editor:

  • Documents saved in other editors might contain formatting that is not compatible with the editor so the best is to start the template with the system's editor from scratch. Also pasted formatted text from editors might not have the expected result. Font sizes might be different then in other editors.
  • Use tables to format and arrange the contents
  • It is best to define sizes in % and not in pixels, then the template works with different page sizes and orientations.
  • HTML does not support fix headers and footers for multi-page documents. If headers and footers are needed (other than what can be set at printing in the browser) then each page has to be designed individually using a page-break as separator between the pages. Note that the margin settings of the browser also influence the available space on the pages. Should contents move to another page then it is also a solution to provide a smaller scaling factor while printing.
  • It is a good practice to use the button frequently.
